2022 Business Goals
2022 Goals Overview
Over the last few weeks we’ve been discussing Goals and how and why to set them for your life and business. I’ve given lots of examples from my own life on what that may look like. Today we’re diving into my business goals for 2022.
Here’s a quick recap of what we’ve discussed so far in our Goals Setting series. In the first post, How to Set Goals for Your Life & Business, we talked all about how to set goals and the why behind setting them. The next post, 2021 Goals Review, took a look back at last year’s goals for my business. We had a year full of unanticipated changes so check it out to see where I met my goals and which ones I was able to simply roll forward to this year and try again.
The third post in the series, 2022 Life Goals, looked at the details of my life goals for 2022. I dove into the categories I chose to focus on and how to break down large goals into actionable smaller steps. Today we’re going to take the same focus to our business goals for the year.
2022 Business Goals Overview
Once I’ve reviewed my goals from the prior year and established the bigger picture of my life goals for the new year, the final step is to focus on my business goals. For 2022, my business is still a part-time endeavor and because of my rebrand from Thorpe & Co. to Sisu Site Shop, I will continue to focus on systems set-up and growth.
In addition to my business, I work part-time outside the home with my husband and homeschool our 4 kids. Our older three kids are participating in extracurricular activities for the first time this year as well.
This year one of my main goals is trying to find a flexible and balanced routine so that I can have dedicated blocks of time for all of my responsibilities. I will be setting aside afternoons for working on and in my business and will have predetermined time slots for discovery calls so I can streamline this process in my business.
For my business goals, I’m using the same categories as last year. They are Financial, Systems, Marketing, Products, Tracking, and Personal Development. Here’s what my goals are for 2022.

Let’s take a look at each category in a bit more detail with some examples to help you define your goals in-depth.
Financial
45k
Build 6 paid client sites + 1 volunteer site
12 VIP Days
This year I’m Including good/better/best mindset to my goals for the first time. I want to be able to realistically achieve my goals and set myself up for success. But, I also want to push myself to see just how far I can push the needle up if I aim myself just a little bit higher. It’s really easy to see the difference a few extra website projects, VIP days and website templates make. When writing out my goals you’ll see them in the good/better/best format as below.
Revenue Goal = 46k/60k/85k
Build 8/10/12 paid client sites = $32k/40k/48k
Build 1/2/3 volunteer site = 0k
Complete 12/18/24 VIP Days = $12k (12x1k) / $21k (12x1k + 6x1.5k) / $33k (12x1k + 6x1.5k + 6x2k)
Sell 10/20/30 Squarespace 7.1 Templates = 2.5k (20x$250) / 5k / 7.5k
My first paid website project last year was much more profitable than I expected and opened my eyes to the benefit of doing larger projects. I designed a new, modern website for a golf course and events venue.
Their previous website was over eleven years old and untimely to update. They wanted to be able to easily update upcoming golf and special events themselves, showcase the wedding and banquet spaces and offer online ordering for their restaurant. I’m so pleased with the result and the client was astounded at how many wedding inquiries she received within the first month of the website launching. For more details, you can read our post Launch Day: Wedgewood Cove.
This year, I’m also offering VIP Days to my clients. This is a premium and expedited experience for website design, updates, and Dubsado Setups. I will be testing out this process in Q1 and will continue to refine and streamline my processes so I know better what I can accomplish in just one day!
In order to achieve the annual goal of completing 12/18/24 VIP Days this year, I need to break the goal down into actionable steps. The first step is to break down the annual goal to 4 quarterly goals. Here is what the good/better/best quarterly goals would look like including price increases after 12 and 18 VIP Days.
Complete 12/18/24 VIP Days = $12k/$21k /$33k = (12x1k)/(12x1k+6x1.5k)/(12x1k+6x1.5k+6x2k)
Q1-VIP Days free x 1 = $0k
Q2-VIP Days 2/4/6 x 1k = $2k/4k/6k
Q3-VIP Days 4/6/6 x 1k + 0/0/2 x1.5k = $4k/6k/9k
Q4-VIP Days 6/2/0 x1k + 0/6/4 x 1.5k + 0/0/6 x 2k = $6k/12k/18k
Next, we’ll take each quarter goal and break them down into goals for each month. Start with outlining the goals needed to meet the “good” goal for each month:
Q1-VIP Days free x 1 = $0k
M1-Define VIP Offer
M2-Create VIP system & copy
M3-Test with a free trial run
Q2-VIP Days 2x $1k = $2k
M4-Revise offer, systems & copy as needed
M5-VIP Days 1x $1k = $1k
M6-VIP Days 1x $1k = $1k
Q3-VIP Days $1k x 4/ = $4k
M7-VIP Days 0x $1k = $0k (Summer Break)
M8-VIP Days 2x $1k = $2k
M9-VIP Days 2x $1k = $2k
Q4-VIP Days $1k x 6 = $6k
M10-VIP Days 2x $1k = $2k
M11-VIP Days 2x $1k = $2k
M12-VIP Days 2x $1k = $2k
TOTAL = $12k
Next, you’ll need to determine the monthly goals to meet the additional “better” and “best” goals for each month. Let’s look at Q2 and determine the difference in monthly goals to meet our level-up goals.
Q2-VIP Days 2/4/6 x $1k= $2k/4k/6k
M4:
Good: Revise offer, systems & copy as needed
Better: Revise offer, systems & copy as needed
BEST: Revise offer, systems & copy as needed
M5:
Good: VIP Days 1x $1k = $1k
Better: VIP Days 2x $1k = $2k
BEST: VIP Days 3x $1k = $3k
M6:
Good: VIP Days 1x $1k = $1k
Better: VIP Days 2x $1k = $2k
BEST: VIP Days 3x $1k = $3k
In this example, the difference between good and better goals is only 1 additional VIP Day for months 5 & 6. Similarly, the difference between better and best goals is only 1 more additional VIP Day for months 5 & 6.
The breakdown for Q3 and Q4 start to show the biggest difference in the monthly goals needed to reach the better and best goals for VIP Days. It also adds in the additional factor of raising rates for VIP Days. For VIP Days #13-18 I will increase rates to $1500 and for VIP Days #19-24 I plan to raise them again to $2000.
Q3-VIP Days 4/6/6 x 1k + 0/0/2 x $1.5k= $4k/6k/9k
M7:
Good: $0k (Summer Break)
Better:$0k (Summer Break)
BEST: $0k (Summer Break)
M8:
Good: VIP Days 2 x $1k = $2k
Better: VIP Days 3 x $1k =$3k
BEST: VIP Days 4x $1k = $4k
M9:
Good: VIP Days 2x $1k = $2k
Better: VIP Days 3x $1k =$3k
BEST: VIP Days 2x $1k = $2k + 2x 1.5k =$3k =$5k
Q4-VIP Days 6/8/10 = $6k/12k/18k
M10:
Good: VIP Days 2x $1k = $2k
Better: VIP Days 2x $1k =$2k + 1x$1.5k =$1.5k = 3.5k
BEST: VIP Days 4x $1.5k = $6k
M11:
Good: VIP Days 2x $1k = $2k
Better: VIP Days 3x $1.5k = $4.5k
BEST: VIP Days 4x $2k = $8k
M12:
Good: VIP Days 2x $1k = $2k
Better: VIP Days 2x $1.5k =$4k
BEST: VIP Days 2x $2k = $4k
You can take this same process for each of your goals. Start with the annual then define quarterly and monthly goals. Many of your goals work well with this level of details but others will be more general like the goals I have for Systems this year.
Systems
Continue learning, mastering Dubsado-Automate, Asana, Canva Pro, Flowdesk, Notion, Markup, Toggl
Finalize processes for Website Templates, Day Rate Offers, and Custom Brand & Website
Implement Dubsado Workflows
I will continue to focus on learning and mastering the programs I’m currently using. I will also be researching and adding a new video and screen capturing software to the mix.
Additionally, I will refine and streamline my processes for all of my offers as well as template the processes in my project management software. The ultimate purpose is to be able to easily hand off certain tasks if/when I was to hire a team member.
I will also be working to implement Dubsado workflows to automate more steps for my different products and services.
Marketing
Long-Term:
Blog-1x/week
Email-Build list to 500, consistently email newsletters 1x/mo + 1x emails 1x/mo.
Increase referrals by adding a $ incentive
Authority- Get Featured 6x
Short-Term:
Cold email 5x/week
SM-Post consistently to Instagram 5-6x/wk, 1x/wk to Facebook, Pinterest, and Linked In
Research local in-person options
In order to have a well-rounded marketing plan, you need to include both long and short-term marketing efforts.
My long-term efforts include blogging regularly a minimum of once per week. This will increase my search ranking over time and increase my authority as a brand and website designer and online business consultant.
I also hope to grow my email list to 500. I know the initial stages of this take a long time and build momentum slowly over time. I’ve already created two guides I am using as lead magnets. I plan to evaluate how they are working at the end of Q2.
I will restart my efforts in being consistent with email marketing with my new brand. I believe the root of this is getting consistent with my blog and posting 1x week. This inherently will give me something to email about every week. I will also continue to evaluate and refine my lead magnets. My goals for each month will start small and increase every month so that I will reach my goal of 500 subscribers by the end of 2022.
This goal could look like this:
Q1-30 total subscribers
M1-10 subscribers
M2-20 subscribers
M3-30 subscribers
Q2-80 total subscribers
M4-40 subscribers
M5-60 subscribers
M6-80 subscribers + Evaluate Lead Magnets
Q3-200 total subscribers
M7-110 subscribers
M8-150 subscribers
M9-200 subscribers
Q4-500 total subscribers
M10-300 subscribers
M11-400 subscribers
M12-500 subscribers
I will be adding a financial incentive to referrals provided by past clients. I will be researching how to track this as well as the terms I will offer in Q1 and hope to have it ready to roll out in Q2.
Another option to increase authority is to write articles that will be featured on other blogs or publications. I will research options for this in Q2 and hope to actively pursue getting featured 3x each in Q3 &Q4.
My short-term marketing efforts include cold emailing, social media, and local in-person options. This year I am focusing my social media efforts on Instagram as I enjoy the visual aspect of this platform. I just started to post in IG right before the turn of the year and will continue to learn more and become more efficient in the time it takes to make a post.
I will also start to post occasionally on other platforms. In Q1 I will update my Pinterest and Linked In accounts to include Sisu Site Shop.

Research & Consider FB Community
For products this year I will first revisit my Squarespace Template Decadent after completing my coding course. I will research and determine the method I will use to deliver it and how I will support it in Q1. Once my process is finalized, I hope to design two more new templates, one in each focus area of my business.
I will also research designing coordinating designs for Email & Social Media Marketing. And finally, I will consider how best to package up designs for Dubsado.
I wrote about the goal details of my Day Rate offer above in the Financial section. I am excited to test and refine this offer in Q1 & Q2. This is the place I have to take massive imperfect action to get started.
The first step is to offer this new service to my former clients as a test. I will be tracking how long it takes to complete the test VIP days and revise them until the process is smooth for both my clients and myself!
I will also take this approach to refine my custom design offers. I am learning CSS this year to make my designs stand out and be able to confidently offer surprising and unique website designs.
The first step to creating my first course is to define the exact problem I hope to solve and outline the modules to support that end. I will start on this in earnest in Q2.
I will also continue to consider the best way to host a community and will revisit it in Q3.
Track: Business Metrics
Track Income + Expenses weekly
Track Website, Email, and SM metrics monthly
I will continue to record income and expenses weekly this year. This takes less than 15 min a week and ensures that nothing gets missed.
I am going to streamline my other tracking efforts by recording my metrics monthly versus weekly. This will free up 4-8 hours a month. I think the data will still clearly show what efforts are making the most impact and I hope to see steady increases in traffic and engagement as I put all the content creation and marketing efforts into action.
Personal Development:
Read 6 Business Books
Complete Courses
Standout Squarespace
Day Rate Magic
By the end of the month, I will determine the 6 business books for my personal development reading stack for the year. To start with I plan to read for 10 minutes at the start of my business day. Stay tuned for more details.
To level up my Squarespace skills this year I’m taking Squarestylists Standout Squarespace course with the goal of learning to code with CSS and begin Javascript. This course is a huge undertaking and I’m so excited to learn from one of my favorite Squarespace Designers & Developers.
I’ve learned a few key design tricks so far that nearly make the hefty investment worthwhile and I’m only just about to begin the coding modules.
I will also continue through the remaining modules of Day Rate Magic and take advantage of all the additional monthly training offered.
If you are just starting to outline your goals for the new year, start by defining the categories you want to focus on. For my business goals, I’m using the same ones as last year: Financial, Systems, Marketing, Products, Tracking, and Personal Development.
Once you have the categories decided on you can outline goals for each one. It's helpful to make them specific, actionable, and measurable so you have a way to evaluate your progress toward them.
From here it's important to define goals for each quarter and then each month. The final step is to take the goals for each month and determine what action steps you are going to take each week toward each goal.
I’ve outlined several examples throughout the post I hope you find helpful as you work on defining your own goals for your business.
